It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the special edition of the International Conference on Multidisciplinary Aspects of Built Environment (ICoMABE) 2024. This special issue, curated to coincide with the conference held from June 20-22, 2024, brings together pioneering research and innovative practices in the fields of architecture, urban planning, material technology, and pedagogical advancements in spatial design.
The tracks covered in this edition—ranging from sustainable urban development and smart city designs to cutting-edge building materials, disaster-resistant structures, and pedagogical innovations—reflect the breadth of the built environment’s challenges and opportunities. As we navigate the evolving landscape of our cities, these topics are not only timely but critical for shaping a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future.
The built environment is facing an era of unprecedented change, driven by rapid urbanization, climate challenges, technological advancements, and evolving societal needs. ICoMABE 2024 serves as a timely platform to address these critical issues through a multidisciplinary lens, bridging the gaps between architecture, urban planning, construction technologies, and design education. As we confront the challenges of sustainable development, carbon-neutral construction, and the demand for smarter, more inclusive cities, this conference has become a significant gathering point for professionals, academics, and innovators committed to shaping the future of our built spaces.
The need for such a conference is underscored by the increasing complexity of today’s urban environments. The convergence of design, technology, and sustainability is no longer optional but essential in creating resilient and equitable spaces that meet the demands of diverse populations. ICoMABE 2024 emphasizes not only the exploration of innovative solutions but also the importance of integrating sustainability into all aspects of planning and development. By bringing together thought leaders from across disciplines, this conference fosters the exchange of knowledge and ideas necessary to address the multifaceted challenges facing the built environment today. The discussions and research presented here aim to shape policies, inspire groundbreaking designs, and influence future practices in creating livable, sustainable, and future-ready environments.
ICoMABE 2024 has provided a platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to share their expertise, and I am excited to present the key findings, insights, and discussions that emerged from this event. The articles selected for this special issue highlight the multidisciplinary nature of the built environment and emphasize the importance of collaboration between academia and industry to foster meaningful change.
This edition includes thought-provoking explorations into sustainable urban design, innovations in material science, and the integration of technology in design education. As editor, I have been privileged to work closely with the authors, whose contributions have demonstrated outstanding originality and relevance to the global context of our built environment.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the contributors, reviewers, and the organizing committee of ICoMABE 2024 for their unwavering support and dedication. International Conference on Emerging Trends in Design and Arts
Vol. 5 No. ICETDA24 (2024)Dear Readers and Contributors,
The Faculty of Design and Arts (FDA), Poornima University, Jaipur, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Craft and Design, Jaipur; Adelaide Central School of Art, Australia; and Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan, successfully organized the 2nd edition of the International Conference on Emerging Trends in Design and Arts (ICETDA24) on April 5th and 6th, 2024. The conference witnessed participation from over 32 institutions and colleges.
Eminent keynote speakers, including Dr. Rima Hooja (Director, Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Museum, City Palace, Jaipur & Director, Jaigarh Fort), Mr. Pramod Sharma (Eminent Author and Poet, Jaipur), Dr. Daniel Connell (Visual Artist, Adelaide Central School of Art, Australia), Prof. Bhagav Mistry (Design Practitioner and Pedagogist), Dr. Shalu Rustagi (Professor, IICD, Jaipur), Dr. Rena Mehta (Associate Professor, IICD, Jaipur), Dr. Ashima Arora (Associate Professor, IICD, Jaipur), Dr. Mahesh Singh (Professor, BHU, Varanasi), Dr. Arjun Kumar Singh (Associate Professor, Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal), Dr. Kingshuk Mukherjee (Associate Professor, IICD, Jaipur), Dr. Isha Bhatt (Assistant Professor, Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan), and Mr. Jay Patel (Assistant Professor, Banasthali Vidyapith), graced the occasion and chaired various sessions.
The 2nd ICETDA24 was a resounding success, offering an invaluable platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas across interdisciplinary areas of design and arts. The conference received over 120 abstract submissions, with 90 papers and 34 posters scheduled for presentation, covering a wide range of topics including Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Animation, Gaming, AR and VR, Fashion Design, Textile Design, Interior Design, and Product Design. Out of 90 papers submitted, 62 were selected for publication in the UGC Care-Listed journal "ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts" as part of a special issue titled " International Conference on Emerging Trends in Design and Arts."
I extend my deepest appreciation to Granthaalayah Publications for their exemplary partnership with our institution, which has provided researchers with proper recognition. International Conference on Innovative Techniques in Artificial Intelligence and Communication Technologies

It is with great desire that we present the proceedings of the International Conference on Innovative Techniques in Artificial Intelligence and Communication Technologies (ICITAICT 2K24), held on 12th April, 2024. This conference, organized by the Department of Visual Communication at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Deemed University, Chennai, India, in association with INTI International University, Malaysia, marks a substantial milestone in the advancement of research and progress in the fields of artificial intelligence and communication technologies.
This conference acknowledged an overwhelming response, with numerous high-quality 246 papers submissions spanning a wide range of topics including, but not limited to, Ai and Film Making, Ai and Content Creation, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, wireless communication and IoT. The rigorous peer-review process ensured that only the most impactful and innovative research papers were selected for presentation.
Among 246 papers, 12 were selected for publication in the special issue of the UGC Care-Listed Journal "ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts," titled "Artificial Intelligence and Communication Technologies." I extend my heartfelt gratefulness to Granthaalayah Publications for their valuable collaboration with our institution, which has greatly encouraged researchers by providing them with well-deserved recognition.

National Conference on Journalistic and Creative Freedom: Prospects and Challenges

The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Faculty of Science & Humanities, SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Kattankulathur organized a Two- Day National Conference on Journalistic and Creative Freedom: Prospects and Challenges on 21, & 22 September 2023. The conference had eight sessions, including two hybrid mode sessions; the conference has papers across India.
The conference included eight different panel experts in the field of our conference themes, such as Press freedom, Media independence, Free speech, Editorial independence, Censorship, Information access, Journalistic ethics, Media pluralism, Artistic expression, Creative autonomy, Freedom of imagination, Intellectual property, Cultural diversity, Creative license, Copyright protection, Artistic integrity, Unrestricted creativity, Online censorship, Social media moderation, Content filtering, Information control, Digital censorship, Content moderation policies, Online speech restrictions, Content removal, Online surveillance. During the research presentation, the experts and participants discussed and cultivated knowledge on the specific topic among the audience.
Significantly, the keynote speaker Dr. Debi Chatterjee, Former Professor, Department of International Relations, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, emphasized the role of media in safeguarding democracy in a nation. Transparency and accountability are essential for the functioning of a healthy democracy. Investigative journalism exposes corruption, abuse of power, and other threats to democratic principles. The notable speaker has highlighted the important factor that Media plays a fundamental role in providing citizens with accurate and timely information about political events, policies, and issues. She also asked the media students as well as professionals to be torch bearers for media as well as creative freedom. The valedictory speaker Mr. Nandakummar R, Director, Directorate of Communication, SRM Institute of Science and Technology has incited a diverse and pluralistic media landscape ensures that a variety of perspectives and opinions are represented. And Media diversity is crucial for preventing the concentration of power and fostering a more inclusive democracy.
The conference research papers had Sixty-Seven research papers have presented during the two days National conference: Forty-Seven (47) papers on the physical mode and twenty (20) on hybrid mode, including special sessions. Few papers related to scope were selected to be published in the UGC Care-Listed Journal "ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts" as a special issue titled "National Conference on Journalistic and Creative Freedom: Prospects and Challenges”. I express my sincere thanks to the publisher of Granthaalayah Publications for their noble partnership with our institution, inspiring and acknowledging researchers.

Enhancing Connections in Visual and Performing Arts: Multidisciplinary Insights in Architecture and Planning

School of Architecture and Design, K. R. Mangalam University has successfully organized a Three-Day National Conference on "MULTIDISCIPLINARY ASPECTS OF ARCHITECTURE AND PLANNING: ENHANCING THE CONNECTIONS" on 1st- 3rd June 2023. This National Conference was in collaboration with the Council of Architecture -Training and Research Centre, Bhopal, along with Piloo Mody College of Architecture-Cuttack and SRM Institute of Science and Technology- Chennai. PMC and SRM as intellectual partners. Architecture and urban planning, among humanity's oldest professions, preserve our history and enable us to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and envision a brighter future. Modern architecture, with abundant resources and advanced technology, pushes the boundaries of knowledge, necessitating interdisciplinary collaboration to address contemporary challenges. The 'National Conference on Multidisciplinary Aspects of Architecture and Planning: Enhancing Connections (NCMAD 2023)' was convened to establish a global forum for comprehensive discussions on Architecture and Design, fostering research, and showcasing the latest innovations, trends, and solutions in the field. The conference featured themes like functionality, livability, sustainability, urban conservation, history, and criticism in architecture, design, planning, and innovation.
The conference attracted a broad audience from both industry and academia, presenting diverse papers that highlighted innovative approaches to optimize function, aesthetics, and structural integrity in building and planning projects with interdisciplinary insights. It effectively addressed various factors impacting contemporary urban life, emphasizing the significance of a multidisciplinary approach in architecture and planning, and stressing global competitiveness, sustainability, and innovation. Out of 92 submitted papers, 67 were shortlisted for presentation, and 13 were selected for publication in the UGC Care-Listed Journal "ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts" as a special issue titled "Enhancing Connections in Visual and Performing Arts: Multidisciplinary Insights in Architecture and Planning" Distinguished speakers at the conference included Prof. Abhay Vinayak Purohit, Dr. Navneet Munouth, Dr. C. Pradeepa, Sivakumar Srinivasan, Dr. Prashant Anand, and Dr. B.C. Roy. The event emphasized the essential role of a proactive, multidisciplinary approach in designing functional and innovative environments while addressing contemporary challenges.

Cultural Diversity for Sustainable Development in Art and Design

The contributors to this special issue consider how urban, rural, local, and global communications, experimental and innovative media used alongside indigenous knowledge and folkloric craft practices, respect for the disparity of human identity, heritage, tradition, and culture, and the importance of documenting, preserving, and protecting, and enhancing creativity and cultural diversity is essential for our collective future. They presented their research at the Woxsen University and Banaras Hindu University’ international conference ‘Cultural Diversity for Sustainable Development in Art and Design’ in June 2023.
The context of their work is the sophisticated networks across nations that link product ideation, production, consumption, post-consumption management, and policy in highly complex chains. These chains see wealth move upwards, often at the expense of those lower in the chain, those nearer to the making of the products, arguably those with the greatest creative talent and technical skill. In an inverted triangle of development, the advancement of economies is often at the expense of the sustenance of communities, resources, histories, and individual humans.
Radical, and in some cases painful, adjustments to how we live are no longer ‘design decisions’ or ‘sustainable choices’. While we have considered for some time that perhaps we need to slow down, take time to breath, consume less, and cease striving, we have not yet come collectively and universally to understanding that advancement is not always positive. We have not yet concluded that we are operating an obsolete and unsustainable business model, and we have not yet seen holistically that thinking in terms of a smaller Earth is conceivably our only solution.
These papers challenge us to think about why humans first created, so that their ‘things’ were not only functional and utilitarian. Communities from distinct geographic regions across the world developed decorative, expressive, ritualised, secular, and sacred objects from early in human development. Individuals sustained themselves, their communities, their beliefs, and their environments by applying their creative imaginations to their tools, coverings, shelters, surroundings, this growing rapidly in sophistication, purpose and embeddedness as human societies and cultures evolved.
Our ancestors preserved cultural diversity without even thinking of it, both in their material surroundings and civilisations, but also through storytelling that illuminated their spirit world and imaginations. They gave us the myths and legends, superstitions and belief systems, ideologies and moralities that persist into our folk traditions, societal customs, disparate identities, and artisan-based cultures today. This excellent Special Issue resists a homogenised globalist culture that erases the diversity nourishing vital philosophical, intellectual, instinctual, or imaginary concepts that make up the immaterial and intangible aspects of sustainable development that we so need to protect.Sincerely,

The Faculty of Design and Arts (FDA), Poornima University, Jaipur in association with Adelaide Central School of Arts, Australia and Indian Institute of Craft and Design, Jaipur has successfully organised a Two-Day International Conference on "“ICETDA’23” International Conference on Emerging Trends in Design and Arts " on the 7th and 8th of April’ 2023. About 24 universities/ colleges participated in the conference, and a total of 81 papers were finalized for the final presentation. In this conference, renowned distinguished keynote speakers, Dr. Toolika Gupta, (Alliance Franciase de) from Indian Institute of Craft & Design (IICD), Jaipur, Prof. Achia Anzi from O.P. Jindal University, Prof. Bhagav Mistry, Dean- Design Culture, ARCH college of Design from Jaipur, Dr. Daniel Connel from Adelaide Central School of Arts, Australia, Dr. Mahesh Singh from Banaras Hindu University, Prof. Meenakshi Singh from IICD, Jaipur, Dr. Rena Mehta from IICD, Jaipur, Dr. Kingshuk Mukherjee from IICD, Jaipur, Dr. Dushyant Dave from Banasthali Vidyapith, Jaipur, Dr. Arjun Kumar Singh from Chitkara University, Chandigarh, gave their valuable insights and discussed about the latest issues in the domain. The presentation sessions were chaired by prominent resource persons from various colleges in India. The conference's main objective was to encourage scholars to have an insight into the different areas and exchange of ideas among inter disciplinary research areas of Design and Arts. Among the Few papers received, Few papers related to scope were selected to be published in the UGC Care-Listed Journal "ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts" as a special issue titled "International Conference on Emerging Trends in Design & Arts". Communicating with Communities: Transcending the Borders

After the massive success of ISMER 2022, the Department of Visual Media and Communication, Kochi Campus, and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham announced the second edition of our International Symposium on Media Education Research. The event was organized from 23rd March – 25th March 2023 at Amrita Kochi Campus. This year ISMER focused on "Communicating with Communities, Transcending Borders” to highlight how media can transcend borders and help communicate with the communities. The event is sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research, MICA, UNESCO MIL Alliance, Global Media Educational Council, Media and Information Literacy for Asian Network, Pafeme-South Africa, and Ding Learning UK.
Media has played a significant role in shaping our societies and cultures throughout history. From the invention of the printing press in the 15th century to the rise of the internet and social media in the 21st century, media has evolved and transformed how we communicate, share information, and create meaning. With media becoming more pervasive and accessible daily, its influence on our communities has become even more significant. Media can shape public opinion, influence political discourse, and create cultural norms and values. It can also serve as a platform for marginalized voices, allowing them to challenge dominant narratives and share their experiences with a wider audience. In the era of communication technologies rapidly evolving and shaping our social and cultural landscapes, Media Education has started to gain prominence in the modern era. However, with this great power comes great responsibility. As media professionals and educators, we must be aware of the potential impact of media on our communities and work to ensure that it is used in ways that promote social justice, equity, and diversity. This is why events like ISMER 2023 are so important, as they provide a space for critical dialogue and reflection on the role of media in our lives and how we can use it to create positive change. Over the last three days, we saw 70+ presenters and panellists who opened a diverse range of topics related to media education, including media literacy, media, and communication policy, participatory media, community media, digital storytelling, and more for our audiences. We received 75 research papers which are peer reviewed by the expert reviewers for publication in the journal. From thought-provoking insights on the most pressing issues facing media educators today, ISMER wanted to become a stage for our audience to think critically about the role of media in our lives, in which we have gallantly succeeded.

The Department of English (UAP) has successfully organised a Two-Day International Conference on "Learning Language and Literature for Life (4L)" on the 9th and 10th of September 2022. About 44 colleges participated in the conference, and a total of 270 presenters attended it. Parallel sessions were conducted at four venues with the distinguished keynote speakers, Dr. P.K Patra from Bodoland University, Assam; Dr. Seng Tong Chong, University Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia; Dr. Mohammed Shamsul Hoque, Daffodil International University, Bangladesh; Dr. Pasa Tevfik Cephe, Gazi University, Turkey and Dr. Michael Greaney, Lancaster University, United Kingdom. The presentation sessions were chaired by prominent resource persons from various colleges in Tamil Nadu. The conference's main objective was to encourage scholars to have an insight into the different areas of English language and literature research. The discussions during the paper presentations proved to be a great opportunity for exchanging knowledge among great minds. Among the 270 papers received, 17 papers related to scope were selected to be published in the UGC Care-Listed Journal "ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts" as a special issue titled "Depiction of Women in Artistic Works". I express my sincere thanks to the publisher of Granthaalayah Publications for his noble partnership with the institution to motivate researchers with due recognition. The Department of English (UAP) looks forward to take this partnership to the next level with substantial research contributions to promote art forms in general and literary arts in particular.
