COALITION POLITICS IN INDIA: FIRST EXPERIMENT

Abstract [English]

The socio-economic upheaval of the 1970s was used as a political opportunity by almost all non-congress political parties,irrespective of their ideological leanings to merge their political identities into one and challenge the political might of the Indian National Congress at centre . This new political avatar/ incarnation of the united opposition called Janata Party succeeded in dislodging the predominant Congress party from the seat of power at the national level / Raisina Hills . No doubt this experiment could not last long but it succeeded in creating a political awakening that predominant system can be challenged successfully. The researcher has tried to explain the reasons for the success and failure of this experiment in its first attempt at the National level.

1970 के दशक की सामाजिक-आर्थिक उथल-पुथल को विपक्षी दलों के नेताओं ने वैचारिक मतभेदों से परे राजनीतिक अवसर में बदल दिया। इस तरह के प्रयास ने परस्पर विरोधी राजनीतिक दलों को जनता पार्टी नामक एक राजनीतिक पहचान में बदल दिया, जिसने नई दिल्ली के रायसीना हिल्स में सत्ता के केंद्र से प्रमुख भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस को सफलतापूर्वक हटा दिया। हालाँकि यह अपना पूरा कार्यकाल नहीं चला सका, लेकिन यह एक संदेश देने में सक्षम था कि एक पार्टी के प्रभुत्व को सफलतापूर्वक चुनौती दी जा सकती है। वर्तमान पत्र एक तरफ राजनीतिक सत्ता के एक साथ आने और राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर पहली गठबंधन सरकार के ढहने के कारणों का पता लगाने का इरादा रखता है।
