RENOWNED EXPERIMENTAL ARTIST SURENDRA PAL JOSHI

Abstract [English]

Surender Pal Joshi one of the finest artist of India. Who was very much established in his field. He had his own style for his art works and that is why he was also known as an experimentalist, as he was always ready to come up with new experiments. His art works hold a very wonderful charm that everyone who sees them, tends to get mesmerized. He was born in the year 1958 in a village close to Dehradun. He did his primary and secondary education from Dehradun itself. After that he shifted to Rishikesh for his BA (Bachelor’s In arts) and then did his B.F.A (Bachelor’s in fine arts) from Lucknow University. He completed his BFA in 1985 as the top performer in the entire college. After that he went to Jaipur for further studies and from there itself his actual journey of becoming one of the finest artist of India started. He came up with new Creativity, New experiments, and a whole new series of his art works. Many of them were exhibited at Lalit Kala academy Jaipur in 1988 and it received a lot of appreciation. His paintings also used to depict an essence of Sufi assembly. He was also quite influenced by the great poet "Kabir" and did made many art works that used to portray Kabir's sayings. And that's how he got to know about the power of experimantalism. His art works also used to depict an essence of mother nature. And gradually he understood his areas of strength. With the power of his imagination and experiments he started his own journey of failures and success.
With time he started making his art works in different mediums like Metal, Board ceramic, Tera Cota, Wood steel, Glass, brass and what not. He tried everything that was possible whatever seemed not. made it possible too. Not only in India but his art works started receiving appreciation from other countries too. Became an international name. He was also bestowed with National awards. Now he started with a different form that was modern art works but with a traditional touch. His series were also named as " Taana-Baana". With years of hard work, risk taking abilities, with power of his imagination and experiments he became a sensation. And was always appreciated for his great ideas and designs. He was also called to visit various countries. He was also a professor in School of Art and served their from 1988 till 2004. He tool VRS and then decided to be a free artist. His years of hard work got him many awards, scholarships, and Fellowships. In 2013, impressed with his hard work and dedication, The Uttarakhand government proposed an idea to make a museum for him with all his art works installed. It was inaugurated in 2016. And in 2018 this great man departed from this world, leaving behind a whole big Era. He'll always be alive in our hearts, and I'll always be grateful for his teachings and guidance

सुरेंद्र पाल जोशी भारत के महान कलाकारों में से एक हैं। जोशी जी की स्वयं की अपनी शैली थी और इसीलिए उन्हें एक प्रयोगवादी के रूप में भी जाना जाता हैं, क्योंकि वह अपनी कला के साथ हमेशा नए प्रयोग करते रहते थे। उनकी कलाकृतियों में इतना अद्भुत आकर्षण होता है कि जो कोई भी उन्हें देखता है, मंत्रमुग्ध हो जाता है। उनका जन्म साल 1958 में देहरादून के नजदीक एक गांव में हुआ था। उन्होंने अपनी प्राथमिक और माध्यमिक शिक्षा देहरादून से पूर्ण की थी। स्नातक शिक्षा के लिए जोशी जी पहले ऋषिकेश गए और फिर लखनऊ से बीएफए (चित्रकला) से पूर्ण किया। उन्होंने 1985 में अपना बीएफए प्रथम स्थान से पूर्ण किया। इसके बाद जयपुर मैं ही रह कर अपनी उच्चा शिक्षा व चित्रकला की स्वयं की प्रथम श्रंखला का चित्रांकन कार्य पूर्ण किआ। उनमें से कई को 1988 में ललित कला अकादमी जयपुर में प्रदर्शित किया गया और इसे बहुत सराहना मिली। उनके चित्रों में सूफी सभा का सार भी चित्रित होता था। वह महान कवि "कबीर" से भी काफी प्रभावित थे और उन्होंने कई कलाकृतियाँ बनाईं जो कबीर की विचारो को चित्रित करती थी। उनकी कलाकृतियाँ मातृ प्रकृति के सार को भी चित्रित करती थी। अपनी कल्पना शक्ति और प्रयोगों के बल पर उन्होंने असफलताओं और सफलता की अपनी यात्रा शुरू की।

समय के साथ उन्होंने धातु, बोर्ड सिरेमिक, टेरा कोटा, लकड़ी स्टील, कांच, पीतल जैसे विभिन्न माध्यमों में अपनी कलाकृतियाँ में उपयोग करना शुरू कर दिया। उन्होंने अपने हर असंभव विचारो को, संभव करने की कोशिश की, जोशी जी की कलाकृतियों को न केवल भारत में बल्कि दूसरे देशों से भी सराहना मिलने लगी। वह एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय नाम बन चुके थे। उन्हें कई राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कारों से भी सम्मानित किया गया था। अब उन्होंने अलग विचार के साथ शुरुआत की, जो आधुनिक कलाकृतियाँ थीं लेकिन पारंपरिक स्पर्श के साथ। उनकी सीरीज का नाम भी 'ताना-बाना' रखा गया। वर्षों की कड़ी मेहनत, जोखिम लेने की क्षमता, अपनी कल्पना शक्ति और प्रयोगों से वह एक प्रसिद्ध कलाकर बन गए, और उनके महान विचारों के लिए उन्हें हमेशा सराहा गया। उन्हें विभिन्न देशों की यात्रा के लिए भी बुलाया गया। वह स्कूल ऑफ आर्ट में प्रोफेसर पद पर कार्यरत थे और उन्होंने 1988 से 2004 तक वहां सेवा की, तत्पश्चात उन्होंने वीआरएस लिया और फिर एक स्वतंत्र कलाकार बनने का फैसला किया। उनकी वर्षों की कड़ी मेहनत से उन्हें कई पुरस्कार, छात्रवृत्तियां और फैलोशिप मिलीं। 2013 में, उनकी कड़ी मेहनत और समर्पण से प्रभावित होकर, उत्तराखंड सरकार ने उनकी सभी कलाकृतियों को स्थापित करके उनके लिए एक संग्रहालय बनाने का विचार प्रस्तावित किया। इसका उद्घाटन 2016 में किया गया था और 2018 में यह महान कलाकर इस दुनिया को अलविदा कह गए, और अपने पीछे एक बड़ा युग छोड़ गए। वह हमेशा हमारे दिलों में जीवित रहेंगे और मैं उनकी शिक्षाओं और मार्गदर्शन के लिए हमेशा आभारी रहूंगा।
