A STUDY OF SHIV KUMAR'S POETIC LANGUAGE: IN THE CONTEXT OF RUSSIAN FORMALISM

Abstract [English]

Shiv Kumar is a poet who has made a distinct identity in Punjabi poetry due to his poetic creation. His poetry is a delight to every heart. His poetic creation goes beyond the popular metaphors, images and symbols. He focuses on real simplicity and naturalness, which makes his poetry interesting. Shiv's poetry is a depiction of his personal experience. This experience, starting from the personal, becomes universally shared. Shiv is a lyrical poet. His poetry is adorned with longing. Because of this longing-filled poetry, he is called the Sultan of Longing. The melody of life begins with sadness, disappointment, pain, longing and mourning. When a child is born, its first sound is faint. But along with this, hope, joy, love and happiness also bloom in life. This Sultan of Birha poet also begins his poetic journey with pain. Shiva's first collection of poetry, Peedan Da Paraga, was published in 1960. Due to this poetic tone of his, it is said that he is not an intellectual poet, he is a pessimist. However-
Shiva is primarily a poet of longing, of separation, of pain and suffering, of youth, of mystery and romance and of women. He calls himself a poet of intense passion. He writes (my detractors) I do not want to be Keats or Shelley or Shah Hussain. I want to be Shiva and only Shiva. And in reality Shiva is Shiva.

ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਾਵਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਇਰ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਧੂਹ ਪਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਾਵਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਚੱਲਿਤ ਅਲੰਕਾਰ, ਬਿੰਬ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਯਥਾਰਥ ਸਰਲਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਭਾਵਿਕਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਲਕਸ਼ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਦਾ ਚਿਤਰਨ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਨਿੱਜ ਤੋਂ ਚੱਲ ਕੇ ਸਰਵ-ਸਾਂਝਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਿਵ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਗੀਤਕ ਕਵੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਗੜੁਚੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਗ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਮ, ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ਾ, ਪੀੜ, ਹਿਜਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਗ ਤੋਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਬੱਚਾ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਵਿਲਕਣੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਸਾ, ਹੁਲਾਸ, ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਖੇੜੇ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਲਮਦੇ ਹਨ। ਬਿਰਹਾ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਸ਼ਾਇਰ ਵੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਕਾਵਿ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਪੀੜ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਕਾਵਿ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਪੀੜਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਾਗਾ 1960 ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਕਾਵਿ ਧੁਨੀ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਬੌਧਿਕ ਕਵੀ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰੰਤੂ-
ਸ਼ਿਵ ਮੁੱਖ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਦਾ, ਵਿਯੋਗ ਦਾ, ਦਰਦ ਪੀੜਾਂ ਦਾ, ਰੂਪ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਦਾ, ਰਹੱਸ ਤੇ ਰੁਮਾਂਸ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਵੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਤੀਬਰ ਭਾਵੀ ਕਵੀ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਲਿਖਦਾ (ਮੇਰੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ) ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਕੀਟਸ ਜਾਂ ਸ਼ੈਲੇ ਜਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੁਸੈਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਬਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਤੇ ਵਾਸਤਵ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਹੈ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਹੀ।1
