Rules and regulations should make life simple, not complicated. The customs of the community are so deeply rooted that even a slight deviation from them is considered an act against the Almighty, which complicates life. From time to time, communities, religions and castes should bring about changes in the way of life and pave the way for the breath of life. The urgency of the time is to come out of the mindset of standing still and spending life in the dark. There should not be the pain of wasting life with unchangeable rules. One should also get rid of the mindset of clinging to the banyan tree planted by one's grandfather, thinking that there is no need for changes. Sarah Abubakar's novel 'On the Shore of Chandragiri' vividly depicts how such a belief and custom turned a beautiful life into a cruel hell.

ರೀತಿ-ನೀತಿಗಳು, ಕಟ್ಟು-ಕಟ್ಟಲೆಗಳು ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಸರಳವಾಗಿಸಬೇಕೇ ವಿನಃ ಕ್ಲಿಷ್ಟಕರವನ್ನಾಗಲ್ಲ. ಸಮುದಾಯದ ರಿವಾಜುಗಳು ಅದೆಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಭಲವಾಗಿ ಬೇರೂರಿವೆ ಅಂದರೆ; ಅದರಿಂದ ಕಿಂಚಿತ್ತು ಕದಲಿದರೂ ಅದು ಸರ್ವಶಕ್ತನಿಗೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ನಡೆದಂತೆಯೇ ಎಂಬ ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಯು ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಜಟಿಲಗೊಳಿಸಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಾಲಾನುಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾಳುವ ಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯನ್ನು ಸಮುದಾಯ, ಮತ, ಧರ್ಮಗಳು ಹುಟ್ಟು ಹಾಕಿ ಜೀವಿಸುವ ಉಸಿರಿಗೆ ರಹದಾರಿ ತೋರಬೇಕು. ಜಡ್ಡುಗಟ್ಟಿ ನಿಂತು ಕತ್ತಲಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆಯುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಿಂದ ಹೊರ ಬರಬೇಕಾದುದು ಕಾಲದ ತುರ್ತು. ಬದಲಾಗದಿರುವಂತಹ ನಿಯಮಾವಳಿಗಳ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಬಾಳನ್ನು ಸವೆಯುವ ದರ್ದು ಇರಬಾರದಷ್ಟೇ. ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ಅಜ್ಜ ನೆಟ್ಟ ಆಲದ ಮರಕ್ಕೆ ಜೋತು ಬೀಳುವ ಮನಸ್ಥಿಯಿಂದಲೂ ದೂರವಾಗಬೇಕು. ಅಂತಹ ಒಂದು ನಂಬಿಕೆ, ರಿವಾಜು ಸುಂದರ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ರೌರವ ನರಕವನ್ನಾಗಿಸಿತು ಎನ್ನುವುದನ್ನು ಇದ್ದಂತೆಯೇ ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿದ ‘ಸಾರಾ ಅಬೂಬಕರ್’ ಅವರ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ 'ಚಂದ್ರಗಿರಿ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ'.
