AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF ECONOMIC FACTORS AFFECTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF VIDARBHACHAYA

Abstract [English]

Vidarbha, located in the eastern part of Maharashtra, presents a surprisingly confusing story. This region, blessed with fertile land and abundant natural resources, stands in stark contrast to the state’s thriving economic scenario. For this reason, the present research explores the complexities that have led Vidarbha to a state of persistent economic backwardness. The agricultural sector, which is the lifeblood of the region, is plagued by insecurity. Over-reliance on rain-fed agriculture, especially cotton cultivation, leaves farmers exposed to the vagaries of nature. Irregular rainfall, volatile market prices, create a vicious cycle of debt and despair, with heartbreaking consequences – a grim reality illustrated by the tragic rise in farmer suicides.
Beyond the agricultural sector, Vidarbha’s economic stagnation is due to multiple factors. Inadequate infrastructure, including limited irrigation facilities and poor roads, hamper economic growth and limit market access. The region also lags behind western Maharashtra in industrial development. The lack of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), an important source of employment, further diminishes economic opportunities for the population. Moreover, allegations of nepotism by the state government raise concerns about inadequate investment and development policies designed to meet the specific needs of Vidarbha. This perception underscores the sense of neglect that perpetuates Vidarbha’s economic disadvantage. This research study provides an analytical study of the economic factors influencing Vidarbha’s development.

महाराष्ट्राच्या पूर्वेकडील भागात असलेला विदर्भ हा एक आष्चर्यकारकरीत्या गोंधळात टाकणारी कथा सादर करतो. सुपीक जमीन आणि मुबलक नैसर्गिक संसाधनांनी समृद्ध असलेला हा प्रदेश राज्याच्या भरभराटीच्या आर्थिक परिदृश्याच्या अगदी विरुद्ध आहे. याच कारणाने प्रस्तुत संषोधनकार्य विदर्भाला सतत आर्थिक मागासलेपणाच्या स्थितीत नेणाऱ्या गुंतागुंतींचा शोध घेतो. या प्रदेशाचे जीवनमान असलेले कृषी क्षेत्र, असुरक्षिततेने ग्रस्त आहे. पावसावर अवलंबून असलेल्या शेतीवर, विशेषतः कापसाच्या लागवडीवर, अत्याधिक अवलंबून राहणे, शेतकऱ्यांना निसर्गाच्या लहरींना सामोरे जाणे. अनियमित पाऊस, अस्थिर बाजारभाव, कर्ज आणि निराशेचे एक दुष्टचक्र निर्माण करतात, ज्याचे हृदयद्रावक परिणाम होतात - शेतकरी आत्महत्यांमध्ये झालेल्या दुःखद वाढीमुळे हे भयानक वास्तव दिसून येते.
कृषी क्षेत्रापलीकडे, विदर्भाच्या आर्थिक स्थिरतेला अनेक घटक कारणीभूत आहेत. मर्यादित सिंचन सुविधा आणि खराब रस्ते यासह अपुरी पायाभूत सुविधा आर्थिक विकासाला अडथळा आणतात आणि बाजारपेठेतील प्रवेश मर्यादित करतात. पश्चिम महाराष्ट्राच्या तुलनेत हा प्रदेश औद्योगिक विकासातही मागे आहे. रोजगाराचा एक महत्त्वाचा स्रोत असलेल्या लघु आणि मध्यम उद्योगांच्या (एसएमई) कमतरतेमुळे लोकसंख्येसाठी आर्थिक संधी आणखी कमी होत आहेत. शिवाय, राज्य सरकारकडून सावत्र वागणुकीचा आरोप विदर्भाच्या विशिष्ट गरजा पूर्ण करण्यासाठी तयार केलेल्या अपुरी गुंतवणूक आणि विकास धोरणांबद्दल चिंता निर्माण करतो. ही धारणा दुर्लक्षाची भावना अधोरेखित करते जी विदर्भाच्या आर्थिक गैरसोयीला कायम ठेवते. प्रस्तुत संषोधनकार्यात विदर्भाच्या विकासाला प्रभावित करणाÚया आर्थिक घटकाचंा विष्लेशणात्मक अभ्यास करण्यात आला आहे.
