Theatre:- It cannot be said with certainty when the theatre emerged. The word theatre has been used more in modern times but all the tendencies and sensibilities inherent in theatre are present in the scriptures as well as in the people. In its limited meaning, it has been considered synonymous with the combined form of both Rangshirsha and Rangpeetha described in the Natya Shastra.

रंगमंच:- रंगमंच के उदय किस समय हुआ कुछ निश्चित तौर पर कहा नहीं जा सकता है। रंगमंच शब्द का ज्यादा प्रयोग आधुनिक समय में किया गया है लेकिन रंगमंच में अंतर्निहित सारी प्रवृत्तियां और संवेदना शास्त्रों में भी है और लोक में भी है।अपने सीमित अर्थ में यह नाट्य शास्त्र में वर्णित रंगशीर्ष एवं रंगपीठ दोनों संयुक्त रुप का पर्याय ही समझा जाता रहा है।
