Historically, fashion has always been a mirror of human existence. It is a means of expressing the cultural values ​​of any community to the world. Along with this, the clothes or costumes found in a particular culture also reflect the personal values, beliefs, preferences and cultural background of the people of that culture or community. Thus, fashion is a strong medium to express the identity of that time or era through clothes and accessories. Physical development takes place at a rapid pace during adolescence. Hormonal changes occur in the body, so at this time there is a need for cultural and personal changes. Fashion is not only helpful in personality development, it also makes the adolescent child aware of his culture.

ऐतिहासिक रूप से देखा जाए तो फैशन हमेशा ही मानव अस्तित्व का आईना रहा है यह किसी भी समुदाय की सांस्कृतिक मूल्यों को दुनिया के सामने व्यक्त करने का जरिया है, साथ ही किसी सांस्कृति विशेष् में पाएँ गये कपड़े या पोशाक उस संस्कृति या समुदाय के लोगों के व्यक्तिगत मूल्यों, विश्वास, पसंद तथा सांस्कृतिक पृष्ठभूमि को भी दर्शाता है। इस प्रकार फैशनउस समय या काल की पहचान को कपड़ों व सहायक सामग्री के माध्यम से व्यक्त करने का एक मजबूत माध्यम है। किशोरावस्था में शारीरिक विकास तीव्र गति से होता है शरीर मे हार्मोन से संबंधित बदलाव आते है, ऐसे में इस समय उनके सांस्कृतिक व व्यक्तिगत की आवश्यकता होती है। फैशन न केवल व्यक्तित्व निर्माण में सहायक है साथ ही यह किशोर बालक को उसकी संस्कृति से भी अवगत करवाता है।
