The National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), indicates that in many parts of India, levels of violence against women are very high. In Indian society Crime against women is not new; women have been victims of torture and exploitation. Crime against women is a global problem occurring in every culture and society. Therefore, there is a need to pay utmost attention to crimes against women. These include rape, cruelty by husband or his relatives, kidnapping, dowry deaths, mental and physical torture, molestation, sexual harassment, acid attacks and trafficking etc. These are crimes which can be committed specifically on women only. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the laws made to prevent crimes against women e.g. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, The Indian Penal Code, 1860, The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1964 etc. and tries to undertake a structured study of the various crimes committed against women.
