Sri Lanka, located in the Indian Ocean to the south of India, is an island nation which has a rich and glorious past. It has centuries-old cultural, religious and social relations with India. India and Sri Lanka are closely connected to each other's life traditions and values. At the core of which is the centuries-old belief in Buddhism and Hinduism and shared cultural heritage. Both countries, having shared the experience of colonialism, give an important place to non-alignment and independent decision in their foreign policy. Promotion of their respective national interests, India's concern over questions related to the rights of expatriate citizens, especially Tamils ​​living in Sri Lanka, China's growing role in South Asia, rights over marine resources etc. have been influencing the relationship between the two countries. Due to its geographical location, Sri Lanka holds an important place in India's security purposes. In the 21st century, Sri Lanka has special importance for both India and China. India's current foreign policy towards Sri Lanka, which holds an important place in Indian foreign policy, is keeping in mind the growing influence of China in Sri Lanka. In this article we will mainly study the current state of India Sri Lanka relations during the rule of Narendra Modi in India and the role of China as an influential power.

भारत के दक्षिण में हिंद महासागर में स्थित श्रीलंका एक द्वीपीय राष्ट्र है। जिसका अपना एक समृद्ध एवं गौरवशाली अतीत रहा है। भारत के साथ इसके सदियों पुराने सांस्कृतिक धार्मिक सामाजिक संबंध रहे हैं। भारत एवं श्रीलंका एक दूसरे के जीवन परंपरा एवं मूल्यों से निकटता पूर्वक जुड़े हुए हैं। जिसके मूल में शताब्दियों से चली आ रही बौद्ध एवं हिंदू धर्म की मान्यता और साझी सांस्कृतिक विरासत है। उपनिवेशवाद के साझे अनुभव से युक्त दोनों देश अपनी विदेश नीति में गुटनिरपेक्ष और स्वतंत्र निर्णय को महत्वपूर्ण स्थान देते हैं। अपने अपने राष्ट्रीय हितों के संवर्धन, प्रवासी नागरिकों विशेष कर श्रीलंका में रह रहे तमिलों के अधिकारों से जुड़े प्रश्नों पर भारत की चिंता, दक्षिण एशिया में चीन की बढ़ती भूमिका, सामुद्रिक संसाधनों पर अधिकार आदि विषय दोनों देशों के संबध को प्रभावित करते आए हैं। अपनी भौगोलिक स्थिति के कारण श्रीलंका भारत के सुरक्षा प्रयोजनों में महत्वपूर्ण स्थान रखता है। 21 वी सदी में श्रीलंका का भारत और चीन दोनों के लिए विशेष महत्व है। भारतीय विदेश नीति में महत्वपूर्ण स्थान रखने वाले श्रीलंका के प्रति भारत की वर्तमान विदेश नीति श्रीलंका में चीन के बढ़ रहे प्रभाव को ध्यान में रख कर है।

इस लेख में हम मुख्य रूप से भारत में नरेंद्र मोदी के शासन के दौरान भारत श्रीलंका संबंधों का वर्तमान स्वरूप तथा एक प्रभावकारी शक्ति के रूप में चीन की भूमिका का अध्ययन करेंगे।
