On 4 February 1944, the freedom struggle was fought on the front of Arakan (in Burma, along the border of Manipur), in which Azad Hind Fauj had the upper hand. The British army was pushed back from there. On 18 March 1944, the 'Azad Hind Fauj' crossed the border for the first time and set foot on Indian soil. Major General Shahnawaz Khan was commanding the No. 1 Division. Later he was also the commander of No. 2 Division. Colonel Gulzara Singh Sikh Jat was commanding the Azad Brigade in this Imphal war. This division of Azad Hind Fauj had surrounded Imphal from all sides. In this siege, a division of the British army was surrounded for more than a month. Colonel Inayat Jan Kayani was the commander of the Gandhi Brigade. This Gandhi Brigade defeated the British army badly.

4 फरवरी 1944 को अराकान (वर्मा में, मणिपुर की सीमा के साथ) के मोर्च पर स्वाधीनता संग्राम लड़ा गया, जिसमें आजाद हिन्द फौज का पलड़ा भारी रहा। वहाँ से अंग्रेज सेना को पीछे धकेल दिया गया। 18 मार्च 1944 को ‘आजाद हिन्द फौज’ ने पहली बार सीमा पार कर भारत भूमि पर कदम रखा। मेजर जनरल शाहनवाज खान नं0 1 डिविजन की कमांड कर रहे थे। बाद में नं0 2 डिविजन के कमांडर भी रहे। कर्नल गुलजारा सिंह सिक्ख जाट इस इम्फाल युद्ध मंे आजाद ब्रिगेड की कमांड कर रहे थे। इस आजाद हिन्द फौज के डिविजन ने इम्फाल को चारों ओर से घेर लिया था। इस घेरे में ब्रिट्रिश सेना का एक डिविजन एक महीने से भी अधिक समय तक घिरा रहा था। कर्नल इनायत जान कियानी गांधी ब्रिगेड के कमांडर थे। इस गांधी ब्रिगेड ने अंग्रेज सेना को बुरी तरह से हराया था।
