Agricultural policies play a central role in shaping rural development, particularly in developing economies where agriculture remains a primary source of livelihood. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of agricultural policies in promoting rural development by analyzing their impact on productivity, income generation, poverty reduction, and socio-economic transformation.
Drawing upon global and regional evidence, the study finds that agricultural policies have significantly contributed to rural development, although their effectiveness varies depending on institutional capacity, implementation efficiency, and inclusivity. Policies focused on productivity enhancement, market access, and financial inclusion have produced positive outcomes, whereas poorly designed subsidies and unequal resource distribution have sometimes intensified inequalities.
The paper concludes with policy recommendations aimed at improving the effectiveness of agricultural interventions for sustainable and inclusive rural development.
