Abstract [English]

Folk art and textiles are two important areas of traditional cultures. That reflect the social, historical and cultural identity of local communities.
The aim of this research is to study the role of textiles in the expression of folk art.
There is deep connection between folk art and textiles. Textiles themselves are a form of folk art, created using traditional styles, techniques ( such as embroidery, weaving and block printing) and natural dyes. These reflect a community’s culture, beliefs and daily life. This means that clothing is not only for wearing but also serves as a medium of artistic expression, social identity and cultural heritage. This relationship reflects a confluence of creativity, functionality and tradition, where the designs on textiles (such as Madhubani and Paithani) and the processes used in their creation become an integral part of folk art.
In folk arts, painting has a deep connection with textiles. In painting, fabric is used as a canvas. Various style of painting, such as kalamkari from Andhra Pradesh, Mata ni pachedi from Gujrat and Phad from Rajesthan are specifically done on cloth.
In the art of dance, costumes also play a crucial role. Clothing enhances the dancer’s movements, expresses emotions, depicts the narrative, and reflects cultural identity. In dance costumes are not merely something to wear, but an important component of the performance that makes the dance vibrant, meaningful and memorable.
Similarly clothing plays an important role in sculptures not only enhance their beauty but also reflect the society, culture, religious beliefs and lifestyle of that period. Clothing gives the statue a recognizable form, expression and meaning.
Therefor, the study concludes that folk art and textiles are complementary to each other. Folk arts provide cultural identity and beauty to textiles, while textiles serve as a medium for the preservation and dissemination of folk arts.
