THE TAMILS' EARTHEN OCCUPATIONS AS SHOWN BY THE VENPAMALAI

Abstract [English]

It was considered a tradition for the Venpamalai to mention the king, leader, or patrons who ruled the Tamil land and to sing about their valor, victory, gifts, and indestructibility. The Venpamalai says that conquering the country, attracting the gods, and rescuing them are valor and victory. Apart from that, they were happy to think about the victories they achieved in the soil and in soil-related games. All these victories highlight the soil and the earth-related occupations. It also explains how all the earth-related occupations did not affect the natural environment in any way and how harmless activities were carried out.

தமிழ் மண்ணை ஆண்ட மன்னனையோ, தலைவனையோ, புரவலர்களையோ குறிப்பிடுவதுடன் அவர்களின் வீரம், வெற்றி, கொடை, நிலையாமை இவற்றைக் குறிப்பிட்டு பாடுவதை புறப்பொருள் மரபாக எண்ணப்பட்டது. நாட்டினைக் கைப்பற்றுவதையும் ஆநிரைகளை கவருவதையும், மீட்பதையும் வீரம், வெற்றி என்பதாக புறப்பொருள் வெண்பாமாலை கூறுகிறது. அதனோடல்லாமல் மண்ணிலும், மண் தொடர்பான விளையாட்டுகளிலும் பெற்ற வெற்றிகளையும் எண்ணி மகிழ்ந்திருந்தனர். இவ்வெற்றிகள் அனைத்தும் மண்ணையும், மண் சார்ந்த தொழில்களையும் சிறப்பித்து கூறுகிறது. மண் சார்ந்த தொழில்கள் அனைத்தும், இயற்கைச் சூழலை எவ்விதமும் பாதிக்காத வண்ணமும், ஊறு விளைவிக்காத செயல்பாடுகள் உருவான விதங்களைப் பற்றியும் தெளிவுறுத்துகிறது.
